Amid empathy with France, Republicans say attacks show US weakness

Americans are showing effusive solidarity with France after the Paris attacks but conservative politicians were quick to shift the debate to intelligence and President Barack Obama's strategy against jihadists. Scenes of US empathy after the massacres abound: One World Trade Center, buildings in San Francisco and Dallas, and the ice rink at the Washington Capitals hockey arena were all lit up in the blue, white and red colors of the French flag. Meanwhile flowers, candles and even bottles of wine were placed outside the French Embassy in Washington and the consulate in New York following the Friday night attacks that killed at least 128 people.
